About

Escentia is a German-based, multi-lingual, Clinical Affairs consultancy.
We deliver regulatory and compliance solutions to the medical devices industry.

The name might be new to you, but we have a solid pedigree in the industry. From start-ups to large corporations, our experience of working in different businesses helps us to adapt to any challenge. So whether it’s a clinical strategy for a new product or an update to the clinical evaluation of a legacy product, we’re ready to help. Our team of experts work within your processes or support process change where necessary to ensure best practice when drafting technical documentation. We’ll then help you close the gap between the technical requirements and the clinical application.

Partnership

Partnership is the very most important thing to us when working with clients – but also within our own company.

We help you find the data you need – usually there is a lot of data and knowledge available that is not used for clinical evaluation. Your product is excellent – we don’t judge it in clinical evaluations but help you present its benefits (and risks) to the notified body in the best way possible. For that we help you find the data you need. Usually there is a treasure-pile of precious knowledge and information available within your own company – but sometimes it’s hard to find. We help you uncover it and use the synergies to excel the quality of your clinical documents.

Individuality

Knowing, respecting and supporting the individual needs and strengths of our employees and clients is particularly important to us.

We know that there are no one-fits-all solutions – neither in the clinical field nor for people -, and we enjoy working with our clients and their specific needs to find the best possible solution.

We also value the unique skills of our colleagues and allow for different working models and accommodation to ensure happiness and productivity.

Our Team

Elisabeth Oltmanns

Clinical Affairs Expert | Managing Partner

She has a background in International Business and Biomedical Engineering. During her work as Product Manager and Head of Professional Education in Germany and the UK she was always heavily involved in clinical evaluations and clinical studies before deciding to solely focus on this area. She started working as a freelancer in 2019 and finally founded Escentia GmbH in 2021.

Elisabeth is fully committed to the success of all projects and works with her chaos-dog Lotte in our Minden office.

Ulrich Stirnat

Clinical Affairs Expert | Partner

Ulrich studied Biomedical Engineering and worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Dräger before he went on an overland journey through West Africa in an old Land Rover called Téres and a 40 year old roof tent. He and his partner were on the road for almost two years, filmed the whole thing and created a cinema-documentary upon return (reissausderfilm.de). A real heart project.

Back to regular day-to-day engineering life, he worked as a Freelance Clinical Affairs Consultant before joining Escentia GmbH right from its start as a Clinical Affairs Consultant.  Only a few months later he stepped up and became Operations Director and Partner together with Elisabeth and Michael. Ulli is based in Hamburg and brought expertise in the fields of Post Market Surveillance (PMS) and his dog Fufu from Ghana to our startup.

Prof. Dr. med. Michael D’Agosto

Scientific Expert | Partner

Michael is professor for Regulatory Affairs at Hochschule Furtwangen University and has supported Escentia GmbH from the start with advice and trainings.

With Michael, Escentia has brought a well-known expert to the team. He is well appreciated for his ability to explain complex issues in a comprehensible way and for his openness to support everyone.

Amelie Oltmanns

Medical Writing Specialist

Amelie started as a working student in April 2021 and in time graduated into in-depth project related work, so when she finished her master’s degree it was only natural to step up to the role of Clinical Affairs Consultant (Junior). Coming from a creative background, she also quickly took over the marketing side of things and is not only responsible for the company wide marketing concept but also for social media – including her favourite part of the job: the FellGood Managers

Amelie unfortunately refuses to go full-time, as she is part-time self-employed as an Illustrator and working in her original field of study, landscape architecture. However, she still uses the time working with us efficiently, juggling consulting and marketing with being our diversity expert and always looking after the FellGood Managers.

Georgina McGregor

Office Manager

Georgina joined us in February of 2022 after a short but excellent internship in January.

As a british descendant, she speaks fluent German and English – and we all love her Newcastle accent!

She does not only support in all Office Management tasks, but already took over the whole Accounting and also puts hands on in projects. Whatever there is to be done – she’ll have it done!

Alexej Agibalow | Risk Management Expert at Escentia

Alexej Agibalow

Risk Management Expert

Alex joined Escentia as our Risk Management Expert in the beginning of 2023.

Alexej studied Biomedical Engineering and has since worked in the industry for international medical device manufacturers with diverse product portfolios. During this time, he developed his broad expertise through his focus area risk management, which can have interfaces throughout the entire technical documentation.

Now he wants to share his knowledge and experience, to support people with the challenging skill of risk management.

History

Escentia was founded in April 2021 by Elisabeth Oltmanns. After working as a freelancer – and having way too many projects to handle alone – she took the leap and built a company from scratch.
Starting with three employees, in one-year Escentia grew to a team of 10 full- and part-time colleagues.

In March 2022, Michael and Ulli joined as partners, adding a lot of clinicial-affairs and “getting stuff done” experience, and Escentia continues to thrive and delight clients and colleagues alike.
